Interview with Rick DeVoe!

Our friends from Action182 made an interview with the former Blink182's manager and currently AvA's manager, Rick DeVoe. The questions was made by Bruno "Bld", the site's owner. And just to say, the site will have the english version next week, so if you want, make us a visit!

Hi Rick, thank you very much for this chance to interview you.
You are so welcome.

How was your entry in the music industry, and of course, how did you started with Blink-182? Tell us a little bit about you.
I got into the music industry by putting on surfing related events such as movie premieres, contests ect and combined them with music. We would have bands play the events. It was so much fun!

How is your relationship with Chris Holmes? Is it true that you have a musical project with him?
Not true. I really do not know him.

Besides beeing manager of Angels And Airwaves, in which more bands do you partake? How is your relationship with them?
Right now I just manage Angels and Airwaves and Timmy Curran and run a clothing brand called W.R.O.N.G.. It is a youth skate.surf apparel brand.

Which were the best five shows that you have already gone, e which are the best five bands you know?
Well, It would have to be Blink-182 at the Hollywood Palladeum when they opened for Nofx years ago1995 or 96?, Pennywise in Melbourne Australia dec 1995, Blink-182 at the MTV awards show in NYC in 1999, Timmy Curran at the Arlington theatre 2006, MAdness at the Santa Barbara Bowl in 1997, Angels and Airwaves in Orlando Florida feb 2008, Sorry. I listed 6.

Recently, we've been watching the start of a new fashion: hate the "emo" boys. Bands like Fall Out Boy, Panic At The Disco, My Chemical Romance, etc; are becoming more and more hated only because of a classification that they received from God knows who. How do you feel about it, and what would you say to the boys that have no personality and join to this fashion even before listening to the songs of the bands?
I think it sucks. There are some great Emo bands and I just really think people should stop worrying about it. They should funnel there energy into helping there community or making them selves better people. Hating people becuase of the way they dress or what music they listen too is rediculous..People are just bored...

Besides of the musical style difference, which are the biggest differences between Blink-182 and AVA?
Blink seemed to be more fun and upbeat and Angels is more about making yourself a better person and anthemic with a spiritual undertone.

Since Blink-182 became big, we could see cameras filming every shows of the band. The fans are still questioning where is all this material. There isn't even a DVD of a big show you guys made (and it wasn't few). Do you think it's possible that we come to see some of this materal even if Blink doesn't get together again?
There were always cameras rolling at blink-182 shows. I know there is footage outthere somewhere. It is always fun to see old footage. It really brings you back to that great moment in time....

Do you still have contact with Mark and Travis?
Just Mark.

Looking back and taking place in the time that you started to work with Blink-182, how do you analyse the development, especially Tom's and Mark's, in musical terms, comparing the two projects that both of them do nowadays: Tom in AvA and Modlife.com and Mark in Plus 44 and producing so many bands?
Well both guys have grown musically bigtime. Both projects have allowed them to both try out numerous music scenarios that they might not of done while together in Blink 182. MArk has always had a producing side to him and I think he does a great job of the bands I have heard that he has produced. Modlife.com is Tom's baby and he is so excited about technology and how he can bring it to the music scene.

In the end of Blink-182, as we know, Mark and Travis were called to talk, while Tom didn't say anything, and sent his manager to give notice about the end of the band. It was you? Or this didn't really hapen?
Unfortunatley it was me. Tom had me call those guys. It was a sad time for all of us.....Sometimes people grow apart and that is what happened in this situation....I keep my fingers crossed that one day those three will be on the same stage again...Blink-182 rules!!!

I was thinking the same thing, like . . . . c'mon, if AVA's manager wants them to get back together. . . . i guess that only helps things on the "Blink Reunion" front!

To be honest . . . . Before reading this, i seriously thought that Rick was a douche, simply because of the blink break-up.

But i have to admit that this shows a new side of him . . . . . Thanks heaps for getting this!!!
