Maybe there's some sort of middle ground? Like a combo of time registered, plus posts, or maybe offering to upload media to share?

I have a ton of random stuff sitting on a external hard drive ...

Smurky, I think that you should make a certain amount of posts until the media section is unlocked, say 150-200 posts?? Its much better and clever idea, because as you said people might just come on the website to download media...

If I have few topics on my firefox, and I want to reply on them twice in a row why I could not be able to do that, its not like I'm spamming, I'm just replaying. And as Amanda says, that could not work for the spam section, people are posting there constantly.
